Memory Reorganizer Helps To Clear Up Space On Your C: Drive Instantly
Anyone in this similer situation? has anyone hard Reset their phone also? im interested in knowing if this is worth doing?
Ripper1012
Wat about u all
also i had to manually download nokiamessaging before the new email install wizard let me add it, and no i havent got ngage, if you go to the sw updater on your phone you can download it though.
It seams the Uk codes even though are generic are after the other countries..
Anyone else had joy with 0585162?
People who have updated .whats your Code / Rm number?
Thanks
you need 12...26 to update
Hodge, Keep up the good info!

Can you tell me what theme you Use? (Now wallpaller, theme)
Look for Symbian Planet theme.
I removed windows drivers too and reconnected it to my XP based laptop but still i cant reconnect to ovi suite (latest version 2) to do a backup of my settings!! What gives? Please email me back.
after like 2 hours of intalling the new (bloatware) version of OVI Suite, updating phone drivers and shit, i got NSU to recognize the phone... and after taht, it took me like 30 mins to actually update the phone.
i dont know about you guys, but the process its kinda painfull, and besides the ovious kinetic scrolling, i've yet to see how the phone actually performs with this update... i hope it performs way better than before.
Firmware 2.0 here I come!!
It fixed my Facebook app not showing pictures, which never worked before this update for no apparent reason, but for some reason AccuWeather is no longer picking up a GPS signal. Will continue to battle with it and post back.
Overall, this is what the phone should've shipped with and we should now be receiving something a bit more exciting but c'est la vie.

Good luck,

when sending an SMS (text) message to someone that also has an eMail address, it asks me which detail I want to send the message to. Great idea for some, but just doesn't work for others. Like I said, I'm trying to figure out how to disable it (I've also been a little disappointed that it asks me which number to send to, if the contact has more than one, rather than just sending it automatically to the number I have labeled 'Mobile')
So far, I'm happy with the update though! Like the music player improvements.
MD 7
Contacts --> Contact Name --> Options --> Defaults. Set default for Voice Call, Message and/or Email. Once done the default will automatically be used in each case.
Note this was applicable for v11 and v12 but I'm sure also available in v20. Haven't upgraded to v20 yet as not available for my unbranded phone (Singapore).
I feel like a putz. At least I didn't scream and yell about it...then I'd really feel dumb.
Thanks again,
MD 7
I checked NSU not hoping for much today an low and behold v20 is now available for my phone, code 0586300. The Nokia Support 'Can I update' website still indicates v12 is latest but NSU is saying v20 is available. Nonetheless, I'm downloading now.
I guess my complaints to Nokia support yesterday perhaps didn't go unheard!! :-)

I guess we are seeing the start of Nokia being replaced as the major phone maker..
Sad.
Hopefully a fix for this in near future.
Alex
P/S: sorry for my bad english
1. I don't think having a lot of music will slow down the phone - it may be slightly slower when going through lists of songs/albums in the music player, but otherwise there should be no change. It'll handle the photos fine as well.
2. Take all the negative press with a pinch of salt; N97 is a really nice phone, just maybe not the godphone we hoped for. The firmware issues rarely pop up in my day-to-day use.
I recommend the phone, so long as you've read about it and know what you're getting.
Ps, UK sim-free model, still no update :(
On a side note: The comments made about the 'lag' that may be experienced when opening a large music library have always been true for me. But just today I noticed that with the new firmware update there was no lag at all when I opened my music library of 10 GBs. Maybe just a lucky shot, but I think they improved that with the v20 firmware.
MD 7
You're English is not bad at all. From what I've experienced, having a large music library doesn't slow down the phone so much, but it does take a second to load it when viewing the whole library. Basically, when you open your library for the first time of the day, it might take a second for the phone to find all of the songs. After that it shouldn't bother the normal operation of the phone. If anyone else has a differing opinion, please share.
As for the extensive amount of photos, I would suggest putting those on another medium (hard drive or PC), or at least putting them on a micro SD card that you can plug into the phone. Not too sure, but that many photos may slow things down a bit (especially when trying to view them). Just my humble opinions/experiences with the N97.
MD 7
MD 7
I'm now on 52MB free space on C:
same goes for NGage and OVI Contacts (this one can be disregarded, since its actually really integrated into the firmware update).
MD 7
Not 100% how to get it all back running as at the miniute I have not internet on the phone! :(
Other than that it seems great, nice and responsive though the homescreen tends to be abit clunky and the widgets jump around abit when coming out of an app or closing the keypad.
Menu --> Apps --> Setup Wizard --> Select Operator
MD 7
However some keypresses are needed to activate the SIP client on N97:
(1) Go to the admin settings - SIP.
(2) Once in the dialog press #77369*
(3) A confirmation dialog will poop up, "enable IPCall?", obviously press "yes".
(4) The phone will restart.
(5) And voila new IPCall(tm) options will show up when making calls.
Eat that iPhone!!! N97 izt da king!!!
where do I have to look?
MJ
It's great that jbrsubscribe gave that link, but it's also a hard proof that Nokia has fooled you, again, guys. No SIP client in FW 2.0. Did they promise that? Yes (even if they tried to be sneaky by being vague, by only saying "VoIP support"). Do they deliver? No (surprise?).
So, can anyone tell us the score now (Nokia vs. N97 users)? Is it like: 3 vs. 0? Ha ha.
Oh, and to add an insult to injury: iPhone rawcks! Ha ha ha.
As for Nokia... seems to me they are a bunch of cowards, being dictated to by the Providers....
And the iPhone? Well, who cares!!

I downloaded the new firmware to my phone and then did a hard reset. That's *#7370# to anyone who's wondering. I now have over 55mb of free space on C. I formatted my 32gb as well so I'd have a nice clean phone to play with. I installed MailForExchange but changed one MAJOR thing: where message are stored. Change it from C to E (Mass Storage). You can do this by going into Settings > Phone > Application Settings > Messaging > Other. Change the "Memory In Use" to E:MassMemory. This will seriously free up valuable space on C. Anyone else have an issue not being able to change the volume while on the home screen? I can only do it if I'm within the media player.
I have updated to v2.0 and installed MfE. the email sync just fine, but it gives an error when sync the Callendar.
I am using a phone bought in HKG with Code 0586302.
Does anyone have a clue / answer?
Would appreciate if those who successfully upgraded could post their phones code ( if you don't mind, that is ).
Thanks!!
http://www.n97fanatics.com/complete-guide-to-un...
all the information is here, very easy mate. Good luck..and be sure to read through a few times before you physically perform
Nearly all of europe variants are able to upgrade not sure about america. UK is not available.
Unfortunately UK handsets tend to be two weeks behind the global release.
Can anyone advise wat order to do this? both b4 update or after. Or a mixture.
Thanks
So if like me you want a brand new fee, I suggest you first format your HD, then perform a hard reset, then you update and your memories (both phone and HD) should be free! :)
Hope that helped.
Im confused thou. how do i do a hard reset? is it *#7370# or the 3 keys on boot up combi? which one would i need to do? / wats the difference.
Thanks again!
Will let u know my findings!
Im confused thou. how do i do a hard reset? is it *#7370# or the 3 keys on boot up combi? which one would i need to do? / wats the difference.
Thanks again!
Del+Shift+Space power on combo formats your C: wiping the memory and then restoring the default OS.
kenectic scrolling is V nice. agree with others on the others as bit snappier but have no Apps on it (as wiped both drives) does anyone have a good list of
key apps for the N97? the you shouldnt go without apps?.
Thanks
Restore your "personal" data and reinstall apllications, that's the way to go.
I changed my product code ("0570817") ages ago to update to that firmware too, any ideas as to why v2.0 isn't showing in the udpdater? as it seems other people in the UK with my product code have been able to do so.
http://www.nokian97blog.com/2009/09/change-n97-...
took me about 4mins.
I changed to the same as u(below) which is the generic Euro black phone.
0570817: RM-505_EMEA_EURO_QW1 Black
Also make sure you use Nokia Software updater. As i beleve (as been mentioned above) its not avilible Via Ovi, only Pc suite /NSU. backup using the same software (and as daClaus said dont restore the settings.) and best to wipe both mass storage / hard reset the C; then install alll fresh!
goood luck
I'm using NSU too, hence I can't get my head around why it's not working/showing the v2.0
Well I'll still keep on trying :D fingers crossed.
trust me.
N-Gage Application (6.1mb)
Nokia Messaging 10 (2.4mb)
Ovi Contacts 1.2 (2mb)
I thought these was already intergrated into the new firmware? if i install these is that just gonna eat away at my C drive? which is nicely on 55mb...
NGage sounds ok but 6mb!!?
is nokia messaging / ovi worth it?
Currently updating firmware as we speak, happy days.
Don't install Ovi contacts, it conflicts with a few things.
ill leave the Ovi contacts thanks to Hodge but not sure about the Messaging...
It is very important to me...........
Does any one got it resolved
All seems to be working as it should, updated perfectly, love the kinetic scrolling, and even google maps 3.2.1 works without auto ending the application.
HTH's
Happy Days!
One other thing I've come across: Not sure if it's a glitch or new feature, but when accessing the music player from the homescreen widget, it brings you to the 'Now Playing' screen (normal). but when you push 'Back' it goes back to the homescreen, rather than taking you back to the current playlist/music category that you're listening to. To access that list you have to press Options --> Go to Music Library --> then select which list you are using (All Songs, Albums, Playlists, etc.). Not a HUGE deal, but extra steps are involved nonetheless.
Still very happy about v20!! I can't wait for Skype though...
MD 7
MD 7
By the way, thanks for all the great comments on this site...I see lots of issues being addressed and lots of satisfied people. It's nice to see a good community doing what it does best. Glad to be a small part of it.
Was it like that before?
@major: yep this is a good idea too!
it seems that someone has really thought about it ;-)
MD 7
but i live in the US
I dont understand why i dont get the update???????????/
it keeps sayn 12 is the newest
and everything seem to work fine, right now just wating for my library to be recogniced. kinetic scrolling yeah!
You are on Telcel network? If you are, do you have Amigo or you pay every month?...and how much is your month cost with unlimited internet?
I have Amigo but no 'monthly internet' package is available. You can buy only for 1, 2, 5, 7, 15, and 30 days...and for 30 days it cost 600 pesos I think. I'd like to get a plan with Telcel but I don't want to change my phone number. Any suggestions?
MD 7
I also heard that if you put a 500 pesos card on your Amigo, it will give you 1000 pesos credit so you could buy the 30 day unlimited internet option and use the rest for calls. Not sure if true though.
What code did you use to unbrand your N97? Did it cause any issues? Should I revert to the original code afterwards?
Thanks!
I actually didn't have to unbrand my phone. I bought an unlocked, Black N97 from Amozon.com and had a friend bring it down the Baja for me. I haven't seen Telcel carry the N97 yet (at least not here in Cabo).
As for the Amigo 500 card, you are partially correct. If you buy a 500 card you receive something like 900 pesos worth of credit...almost 1000. Those extra pesos are labeled 'bonus' credits (or something along those lines) and I'm not one hundred percent sure if you can use those for buying the internet packages...I'll have to look into it.
As for your ilimitado 3 plan, don't you get 200 minutes every even month? (Feb, April, June, etc.) And only 100 every odd month? Maybe the plans are different depending on your location, but here in Baja Sur that's how the plans are structured...didn't seem worth it to me.
thanks for your thoughts...I think I'm going to investigate the 'amigo internet' option, since switching to a plan might force me to change phone number (not something I want to do).
Thanks again,
MD 7
The plan I got (In Monterrey) gives me 400 minutes every even month and 200 on odd months. Check the website. They are labeled as "blackberry" plans.
I never had a smartphone before (or even any kind of advanced phone). I'm very comfortable with technology and understand how it works but I'm not familiar with the carrier settings that might be lost after the unbranding. Do you think it will be a problem?
Thanks!
If you are real concerned about any issues, I would ask some of the writers of this site about unbranding and recovery (if possible). But like I said, from what I've read, you'll be happy you unbranded your phone.
Blackberry plans work for any device? That's good to know...I'll go back and look at the plans again, since I didn't even pay attention to the Blackberry ones (you notice that the iPhone plans are way more expensive than other plans? This seems to be the case almost all over the world...iDon't indeed).
MD 7
My friend got the iphone 3gs (I think the 16gb one) paid 2400 pesos upfront and will pay 799 monthly for 24 months.
In my case I paid 6000 pesos upfront and 679 monthly, for 18 months (N97).
I don't really care about ideas telcel and all that stuff, I'm just concerned about the actual settings as I'm seeing people describing similar things after unbranding/updating. Maybe I'm not understanding correctly.
I will do the update later today anyway. Hopefully it won't do anything to the Internet configuration as I have to travel tomorrow and probably be away for a few weeks.
Thanks a lot for your help and I hope the plans they offer are convinient for you. Just remember the fair use policy: After 500 mb they throttle your speed down to 128 kbps until the period is over. The other companies do this as well in Mexico.
Thanks!
In any case, some of the settings problems you've read about (i.e. internet connectivity) are easily fixed and are caused by the update, not by unbranding (as far as I can tell...I haven't heard any negative posts about unbranding). My internet tried to connect to tmobile of all things when I first updated...I just went into the internet settings menu and changed it back to my preference of Easy WLAN and my internet connection at work. No problems. Some of the other random bugs seem to also be easily fixed with a hard reset. EverythingBlaxx has an article about how to do a reset in this article: http://www.n97fanatics.com/so-you-want-to-reset... and I plan on following his instructions as soon as I have time to backup my device. I haven't experienced any earth-shattering problems, I just want to make sure that my device is 'clean' and running smoothly.
Also keep in mind that the new firmware (v20) that we're all talking about probably own't be available to Telcel branded phones for a while yet...may be a couple weeks, maybe a couple of months. Nokia has to somewhat 'customize' the update for each branded version, which obviously takes some time (that's my understanding anyway).
Good luck, and thanks to everyone for the great comments.
MD 7
I don't have the ideas telcel stuff on my phone either. I did a hard reset but no luck there. Whenever I open "Destinations" I get a "system error" messager.
Any ideas?
I'm really sorry to hear that...I am honestly surprised that you've had issues...if you haven't fixed it by now, I would just suggest trying the hard reset again, re-installing the v20 firmware, and hard resetting afterwards.
If nothing else you can take the phone back to the store and exchange it for a new one...from what I understand, our warranty policies are pretty good for the consumer here in Mexico. Maybe someone else can answer this...but is there a way to uninstal the v20 and go back to v12? If so, you may want to do that and wait for a proper update for the Telcel branded phones.
I hope you can get it sorted...and sorry to hear the problems, mate.
MD 7
Thanks!
I've used a few eMail clients...I like Nokia Messaging fine enough...especially after they updated it with HTML support and proper touch functionality (touch didn't work all that well when I first used it). But you're right, they will likely charge you for it eventually. Probably a one time fee.
Profimail is a good client as well. When typing a name in the "To:" field it accesses your contact list and seems to be better at suggesting names than NM, but they both do well in that regard. Profimail is also available via trial, so you'll have to pay for that one eventually too. I've been thinking about buying it, and quite frankly, if I go to a plan with ilimitado internet, I probably will.
Gmail has an app that you can use...It's pretty good and all, and I LOVE everything Google, but I'm just not a big fan of their webmail setup. I think I've been using Outlook too long. And of course, unless you forward your other eMail addresses to Gmail (which I'm not inclined to do), you can only access your Gmail account.
Profimail seems to be one of the best solutions out there...for my needs anyway. The great thing too is you can disable an account and set schedules for them. With NM I decided that I didn't want my work eMails coming in over the weekend and had to delete the account completely from NM.
MD 7
and everything works al chingaso! (just fine)
Cheers!
I was going to reply your comment a couple of day ago but I've beeing having problems to register on this site.
well regarding you question, I guess you can get the "plan mas por menos con inernet ilimitado" and you can keep your phone number, if you can bring a number from other company like movistar, I don't see why you can't keep it on a plan with Telcel if it's the same company, remember that now we own the number.
Thanks again,
MD 7
I updated just fine with an unbranded N97 (and I use Telcel). If you're not
seeing the update via your phone's 'Over The Air' application, try looking
for it through the Ovi Suite program for your computer. There's a software
update option in one of the menus. I've also heard that people are having
more luck by actually going into a Nokia Customer Care center...but I'm not
sure if we have those here in Mexico (aside from D.F. probably).
If your phone is branded with Telcel, then there's a chance that the update
isn't yet available for Telcel branded phones. In which case you have 2
options. 1 being that you can wait for the update to be available or 2 you
can unbrand your phone using the steps provided on this site and then try
to update. Sorry, don't have the link to the article, but it should be easy
to find.
MD 7
------- Original message -------
These error messages aren't just spat out for fun.
The "front screen protector" that comes on the phone at purchase is a flimsy piece of plastic intended to stop scratches in the factory, it's not a real screen protector. Its a half penny piece of plastic.
1. reinstalled OVI store - now working
2. reinstalled Mail for Exchange via http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-softwar... because OVI installation kept failing!!!
Am still working on POP email issue, will keep you posted..
It's just so time comsuming.. :(
Try setting the phone to "automaticly" set to Pc Suite in the Usb options from Connectivity menu.
This helped with it "not conencting " and disconnected when pluggin this in.
Thanks
Sorry to re ask this. Can any1 confirm my understanding that NOkia Email should be hard coded into the new firmware? i have the "setup Email" on my widget but when i do Software update it wants to install Nokia messaging at 10 Mb....
I thought this was already intergrated in?
Thanks
which widgets you after? Iplayer u can get again, accuweather from ovi or just google.
Also to add. Shouldnt there have been a newer Facebook app? Another thing i cant see Anywhere?!....
About the Nokia messaging, I tried it. Not a big fan. It's a bit slowish, and feels heavy. Have you tried Gmail's little app!? Very cute and does the job? google.com/m on your browser, and hit more.
Aside from this, it is still not possible to set Opera as the default web browser (even if there are such settings...). When connecting as mass storage it automatically changes the storage location of messages to c:, this is not good if you are syncing with exchange, and the option to copy messages over when changing it back has disapeard.
All in all some good improvements (the best one is the long press on hardware keyboard to enable secondary character, thanks!), but as a business phone using MS Office and exchange I can't recommend this phone (not the prime target though, but still).
When I go to setup -connectivity - accespoints(bestemmingen) it comes back to me with systemerror. Now I can not tell the N97 how and where to connect to the internet... not sure what to do next.
Can it be because I changed prod code? Can I change prod code back to old? and will it work then?
I can recieve email!
MD 7
i am sick and tired of waiting.
I formatted my memory and erased everythin thinking ill start fresh
so i do all that and then i find out
NO UPDATE YAYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I'm from the Netherlands, i tried to update my n97 but the new firmware version is not available.. I tried to unbrand my phone but the product code given by the website is the same with the one that i have :(
Can anybody help me?
Regards,
Baris
i recognize there are stuff to be ironed out (sometimes your remote controller wont work unless the music player is on focus... and so on), but its also true that the phone feel way better than ever.
The Ngage app although i installed from Sis file from the web still installed itselft to the C drive killing 6mbs... :(
got to control panel > system > hardware > device manager.
and if there is exclamation marks next to anythign rwlated with USB or nokia, open up the properties and update drivers.
Thanks
Tried to update from my W7x64 box with no love... Moving over to Vista box
It so useless it need internet connection to understand your voice. not very smart , because the voice control is used to faster phone use , not to wait for a slow gprs connection to send your voice and receive data back.
im looking at getting one. (HOPEFULLY with telstra) and i dont want to sound like a tool or anything but i dont understand all this v.20 stuff. so i was wondering will my phone be fine from just buying it. i have over 1000 photo's i only have about 400 songs, and no vids. i dont use the interenet on phones. and i doubt i'll use the ovi store. or emails.
please help me out!
should my phone be fine without any updates?
I Have a Couple More Questions if you know the answers =)
(Oh btw Im 16, I Only Say This Because My Last Post Made me Sounds Like Im 7 Or Something. Haha)
Do You Know If Telstra Is Yet To Carry The N97? I've Been Hearing Yes And No. So Im Completely Lost On that One. Haha.
Is There Anything Wrong With The Old Firmware That Would Make The Phone Usage Horrible For Me, Even If All I Do Is Txt (alot) Take Photo's Bluetooth Things (Rarely) And The Occasional Phone Call, And I Think If I Use Do Use The Ovi Store. It Will Be Once In A Very Rare Moon. OH! Also I Have Games Downloaded From Mobiles24.com Quite A Few. Do You Think That Would Be A Problem At All? O.o
Please Help.. Err Again =P
Thank You!!
im guessing its more a personal choice then =)
got a couple more questions for ya then im done =)
i was just wondering if the facebook app already on the phone cost money to use. and the weather update app. (witch i think is already on the phone also? O.o)
Martin
thanks again for everything!! all i gotta do know is save for the phone. =P
i dont get it
CAn anyone help me?
thanks dude
I'm also a bit worried if in case I bring to the service shop they will not just tell me that the performace is ok (as some very few times it is)...
-music player when launched from homepage widget, the "back" button doesnt return u to the former page in the application but instaed returns u to the homepage :/ . ( u can avoid this by minimizing the app then long press menu key and restore it, there it will work as its supposed to be)
-in firmware 12 , there was a "find" when u click on options in music player tracks list, it doesnt exist anymore ;( forcing u to slide keyboard out to look for a specific track or artist.
-typing a track or artist name to search for it within your library now only works with the first initials (unlike in v12 where u can type any word of the song and it shows u matching ones regardelss if its the 1st word or not)
-sometimes when lights out or key locked automatically, touch wont response at all but only after like 20sec or u have to restart phone for it.
-memory full error pops specially when keyboard was open even tho i have no app in the background
well , im getting frustrated day after day at the phone, i think updates were supposed to "fix" bugs, adding new features(like album thumbnails in musicplayer) but making new bugs isnt helping anyone at all. those devices were made to make life easier and to provide faster access to stuff, tbh im suffering here bcos this only added more and more unnecessary taps and clicks.
Now it doesn't see Vodafone Live so can't access internet away from home :'( sooo upset the update broke my phone.
Any help pleaase??
Kind regards,
cem
(SetupWizard didn't help, it updates) but then again still no access points. Only WLAN. :(
I was updating the phone and suddenly it failed at about 140 Mb. now I'm trying to update it again but the NSU keeps giving me this failure message:
Software Update Failed - please check that your device is switched on and connected to your PC and try locating the device again
I even had a hard reset but it keeps failing me :(
any kind of help would be GREAT!!
NEED HELP!!

There are too many configurations menu and I must admit having explored very few of them.
They add so much of their own software to every firmware release they're usually a month behind everyone else.
if the operator for the mobile hasnt given out the new firmware, such as Vodafone, and you go ahead and debrand, then take in mobile to be physically repaired at nokia care centre..not software..is warranty still void?
There is nothing in handbook to state this can or may void warranty
Okay, so much of what I'll report has already been noted, but these are the ones that I appreciate the most:
1) A huge improvement to Maps and GPS. The GPS now locks in within seconds, and the compass orients nearly immediately (using the lock-the-screen-then-wave-it-about method).
2) iSync! iSync! iSync! ISYNC NOW WORKS WITH THE N97. I can't tell you how massive this is for me; it makes the phone something other than just a pretty accessory. (You've got to download a new plugin from Nokia and then restart your Mac. But it works, and works well.)
3) My USB voltage and connection problems have disappeared. The phone now acts like my E71, which is to say without stupid problems.
4) All the rest. Yea, yea, kinetic this and that, whatever. It's the improvements to functionality that matter.
Now, the question Nokia needs to ask itself is: why the HELL didn't they wait until the phone was ready to release it? Why the HELL would they put up with MONTHS of highly legitimate and extreme criticism of what should be their flagship phone? That's just bad business! And incredibly lame! All this stuff should have been there from the beginning. (Of course, I remember much the same from the initial release of the N95 … which leads me to ask: why the HELL would you repeat that fiasco??) To top it off, here comes the N900, which points to a future without Symbian … Now, if only they could make the Ovi store incredibly less lame …
With N97, V12 was a month behind European update. Still dont get any V2.0 update yet. It has been 2 weeks. Nokia! Are you hearing this? N series people, how can you be so different from E series people in delivery speed???
I am here too =( still with v12 firmware for N97... extremely tired of waiting for v20 firmware...
Mine is from Singapore 0586300 Black...
C'mon Nokia! Hurry Up!!!
Another option is to take the phone into one of the many Nokia Care Centers in Singapore, they actually upgraded my phone to v12 previously before v12 was available publicly for the Singapore 0586300 N97. They also re-installed the v20 firmware for me last week after I got my GPS and Camera fixed for a second time, which both work great now by the way.
C'mon Nokia! Hurry Up!
I am so fed up of waiting, i was one of the first to get N97...
Someone please please please help me...
My N97 is currently v12 firmware (product code 0586300 Singapore Black)
-Since i am not in Singapore, can i update to v20 firmware from any nokia centre?
-Is is safe to change product code? what are the risks?, and can i change back to original code and do future updates normally? I do not care about warranty.
This is not acceptable. Double standard !
Does anyone know, if i change my product code, will i loose all of my t-mobile settings like T-mobile internet settings etc?
Help Please =)
I Know This Is Going To Sound Dumb. And I've Already Saught of Asked Before.
So Sorry For The Half Reapeted Question.
I Talked To Allphones Today. (Witch Is Were Im Getting My Supposedly 'Unbranded' N97 For $830) And The Guy Told Me it Should Be V.11 Or V.12.
Is There Any HUGE Problems On Those Versions?
Also If I Do End Up Updating My N97 To V.20 Can I Just Do It At Work Over Wifi? Or Do I Need Something Special On My Phone Or On Computer? (I Know I Can Type In *#0000# And Then It Says What Version?) Sorry For My Incompetence. I Dont Really Understand The Version Stuff Completely.
Another Question. If My Phone Isnt Actually Unbranded. I Do Plan On Doing it As Soon As I Get Home From Allphones. Then Updating Straight Away. Will I Need To Do Any Hard Resets Or Backups Of Any Kind. If Im Going Straight From Allphones To Home?
About the different versions in the N97... YES owning a v2.0 N97 is much better than previous versions... It's easier to use, does not freeze as often and is the bear minimum of what God intended of this phone to do... Updating it could work via wifi, but downloading the software Nokia PC Suite or Ovi Suite is easy to do and updating via those is not a hard task... Functionality wise the differences between v1.x and 2.0 is not that much, but it'll make your life a whole lot better if you have the most updated version...
Well Hopefully My Phone Will Work Fine Without Needing Updated.
As Im A Basic User Kind of Person.
Games (Witch I Already Have) About 1000 Photo's 400 Songs. No Vids. No Internet Usage. And Mainly Just Txt's.
Not Having To Do The Update Would Be Great. Hahaha.
Thank You For Your Reply =)
Sorry If Im Seeming Impatient.
But My Repeated Un Anwsered Question Is.
If Im Unbranding Straight Out Of The Box. Do I Need To Do Any Hard Resets or Backups Of Any Kind? Or Can I Just Go Straight For The Unbranding?
Thanks In Advance.

I got a text message a few days ago saying it was available.
Used nokia PC Suite first to back up my phone, then used nokia software updater to go from V11 to V20.
No problems, no crashes, no loss of data.
Outcome?
1. Phone is much quicker ( i didnt bother with any hard resets or any of that stuff, i just make sure that all apps & images are saved on my memory card, not on any of the phones memorys). Applications are loading quicker, navigation between screens is quicker, messaging is quicker.
2. Touch screen is much more responsive hardly any lag.
3. New apps available, but havent really played with them yet, might update you when i have.
4. Kinetic scrolling is there
Errors? none to report. I still have an error that i had when i first got the phone, which is when using the browser to surf the web. At random moment the browser will close itself. If i go to show open apps its still running and i can go back to it, but still, i didnt ask it to close.
Overall, phone is more stable, like how a product should be when you first buy it. Nothing to sing and dance about but a must have for all n97 owners. Hopefully the next software upgrade will have some sexy additions to it that will really make it special
Customer: Hello Nokia! When will be the update available in Singapore?
Nokia: kri kri... kri kri...kri kri...
... I love the phone. Please don’t make me hate you any more!
